Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic Colectomy

A minimally invasive operation to remove a diseased portion of the colon, used to treat conditions such as colon cancer, diverticulitis, and difficult polyps, through small incisions for a faster recovery.

About The Procedure

Targeted treatment for colon disease

A colectomy removes the affected section of the colon and reconnects the healthy ends so the bowel can work normally again. It is used for conditions such as colon cancer, recurrent or complicated diverticulitis, bowel obstruction, and polyps that cannot be removed during a colonoscopy.

Whenever it is appropriate, Dr. Talbert performs the procedure laparoscopically, through a few small incisions using a camera and specialized instruments. This approach typically means less pain, a shorter hospital stay, and a quicker return to normal life than traditional open surgery.

Every case is different. Dr. Talbert reviews your colonoscopy, imaging, pathology, and symptoms before recommending surgery, and makes sure you understand why an operation is needed and what to expect.
